HUNTSVILLE, Ala. —
Ozia Trujillo once again made her mark as set a new program record in the 5K with a time of 17:05.4 seconds, leading Florida Gulf Coast University women's cross country in the Southern Showcase, hosted by Jacksonville State Friday morning.
Siyabonga Mokgothu led the FGCU men's team in the 8K with a time of 24:45.8 — improving his previous mark of 24:46.5.
Trujillo broke her previous record of 17:07.7, which she set two weeks ago at the Florida Intercollegiate Invitational in Jacksonville. The newcomer crossed the line ahead of runners from Florida State, Auburn. Kentucky, Alabama and UCF, to name a few. She finished 13
th out of 367 runners
Tess Shultz was the second Eagle to cross the line and produced the second-best time by an FGCU freshman, clocking 17:56.8 and finishing in 77
th spot.
The FGCU women's team scored 473 points to earn a 19
th overall team finish among 54 teams.
Both teams will return to action on Oct. 4 in Louisville, Kentucky, for the Louisville Cross Country Classic.
The men's 8K official times have not been released as there were technical difficulties. The story will be updated once those times are official.
