FORT MYERS, Fla. — Florida Gulf Coast University men's and women's cross country teams will compete in the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship on Friday at Cecil Field in Jacksonville.
The women's 5K race is scheduled for 7:45 a.m., and the men's 8K race will begin immediately afterward at 8:15 a.m.
Last season, former Eagle
Karley Piers set a program record and
Alise Petrova was named the ASUN Freshman of the Year to lead the women's team.
This season newcomer
Ozia Trujillo produced a new school 5K record with a time of 17:05.4 at the Southern Showcase, hosted by Jacksonville State University on Sept. 12. Trujillo has been selected ASUN Runner of the Week three times this season.
In addition, freshman
Tess Shultz finished second at the Ed Holloway Classic in a time of 21:55 on Oct. 17, which was the fastest 6K ever run by an FGCU freshman. She has earned Newcomer of the Week twice this season.
On the men's side, Siya Mokgothu opened the season at the Florida Intercollegiate Invitational and led the FGCU men's team with a second-place finish in the 8K at 24:46.5. This was the eighth-fastest mark in program history. He added a second-place finish at the UNF Invitational and won the individual title at the Ed Holloway XC Classic, stopping the clock at 24:59 while helping the men's squad to a team first place.
