HUNTSVILLE, Ala. —
Ozia Trujillo made history once again, this time at the NCAA South Regionals, as the Florida Gulf Coast University junior ran a program-record and personal-best time of 19:45 to finish 11th in the women's 6K and lead the FGCU women's cross country team to a 16th-place team finish. Trujillo's performace also landed her on the All-Region Team.
Trujillo broke former Eagle Kelly Perzanowski's program record of 20:38.9, set at the 2013 South Regionals. Her finish also marks the best individual result in FGCU history, male or female. The team finish—powered by
Alise Petrova,
Tess Shultz,
Addison Torres, and
Samantha Ruiz—also stands as the best in program history, with FGCU finishing as the second team from the Atlantic Sun Conference behind Lipscomb.
Fans can tune in to NCAA.com for the 2025 Division I men's and women's cross country selection show on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 5 p.m. ET, where Trujillo is expected to be selected for the NCAA Championship race scheduled for next Saturday in Columbia, Missouri.
The Eagles scored 445 points, defeating teams such as UAB, FIU, FAU, and Georgia Southern, among others. Florida claimed the regional title with 52 points.
Petrova was the next Eagle across the line, running a personal-best 21:17.9 to place 90th. Freshman
Tess Shultz followed with a lifetime-best 21:27.18, the ninth-fastest time in FGCU history.
Addison Torres cut an impressive one minute and three seconds off her previous best to finish in 21:45.55, while
Samantha Ruiz rounded out the Eagles' scoring five with a lifetime-best 22:24.9.
