Sam Baker carded a career-low round Saturday to emerge into contention and highlight Florida Gulf Coast University men's golf at the Rutherford Intercollegiate in State College, Pennsylvania.

"I'm really proud of our team," head coach Andrew Danna said. "The effort is there. We are looking forward to another opportunity to compete tomorrow."

Baker fired a tournament-low, five-under 66 in round two. Baker is competing as an individual and produced five birdies and one eagle during his career-low outing. The sophomore's previous career low was 68.

At one-over for the event, Baker is tied for fourth and just three strokes back of the leaders. Baker shot a 77 in the opening round, improving by 11 strokes his second time through and has eagled the ninth twice.

As a team, the Eagles are perched seventh overall on the team leaderboard. FGCU opened with a 303 and followed up with a 293. The Eagles are three strokes back of a top-five performance. The third and final round is scheduled for Sunday.

Tournament host Penn State leads the 14-team field at 12-over. The Green and Blue has produced the third most pars (106) among the field. The Eagles are dialed in on the par-3 opportunities, leading the tournament with a combined three-over score on such holes.

Sebastian Gamboa paces the FGCU starting five, tying for 18th at six-over after shooting back-to-back rounds of 74. Matt Millar is tied for 23rd, and Austin Cherichella is tied for 28th.

Four Eagles improved in round two. Joseph Sullivan cut seven strokes from his opening round total, and Brody Stevenson cut off eight.
