FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast University men's golf hits the course Friday for its second tournament of the week, competing in the Schenkel Invitational in Statesboro, Georgia.

The Schenkel Invitational is a three-day, 54-hole tournament hosted by Georgia Southern University at Forest Heights Country Club, a par 72 and 7,123-yard course. Only one 18-hole round is scheduled for each day of the 44th annual event.

Fourteen teams will converge in the Peach State: Army West Point, Campbell, No. 17 Florida, FGCU, Georgia Southern, Kentucky, Middle Tennessee, No. 25 Mississippi State, NC State, Notre Dame, South Carolina, UAB, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

The Eagles tied for ninth a season ago. Two days ago in Auburn, Alabama, FGCU placed second at the Tiger Invitational. The Eagles' runner-up performance to No. 2 Auburn marked the third top-three finish of the 2023-24 season. FGCU has climbed up to No. 54 overall in the latest collegiate rankings.

Four Eagles placed in the top 20 or higher on the player leaderboard in Alabama. Austin Cherichella (+4) made a statement and finished in a three-way tie for third alongside some of the highest ranked collegiate golfers in the country. Joseph Sullivan (+7) tied for seventh, Matt Millar (+9) tied for 13th and Brody Stevenson (+11) tied for 18th.

The Eagles tee off Friday's opening round beginning at 9 a.m. on hole No. 10. Live scoring of the Schenkel will be available through Golfstat.com.
