Florida Gulf Coast University men's golf made a statement Monday at the Tiger Invitational and currently sits in third place as the conclusion of round two was halted due to darkness.
"The golf is a great test of golf," head coach Andrew Danna said. "I'm really proud of the effort from our team today. We are looking forward to another opportunity to compete tomorrow."
Round two will resume at 10:15 a.m. (EST) Tuesday morning, with the third and final round to follow.
Tournament host and No. 2 Auburn leads the 18-team field at six-over-par. FGCU (+21) trails second-place UNCW (+17) by just four strokes. The Eagles surged up two positions on the team leaderboard before play was stopped.
Three Eagles have positioned themselves in the top 20 or better on the player leaderboard. Austin Cherichella (+2) is hanging with some of the best collegiate men's golfers in the land, sitting fifth after his opening-round 73.
Auburn's Jackson Koivan is the No. 6 ranked golfer in the country, and Auburn's Brendan Valdes ranked No. 12 overall. Valdes (-2) and Kovian (-1) are second and third, just ahead of Cherichella. A bogey-free back-nine effort highlighted Cherichella's round-one performance.
Brody Stevenson is tied for 13th at five-over-par, and Joseph Sullivan (+6) is tied for 20th. With three holes remaining in Stevenson's second round, he is in line for a team-low even-par scorecard.
