Florida Gulf Coast University men's golf powered through the rain Saturday to complete the final round of the Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Florida.
"I'm really proud of our team," head coach Andrew Danna said. "The effort and attitude was great today. We are looking forward to getting back to practice and preparing for Auburn in March."
The Eagles carded a 290-team score Saturday, finishing 12th on the team leaderboard. FGCU opened the two-day tournament on Friday with its best round of the event, a 285.
Tournament host No. 23 Florida won the team title at 26-under par. North Florida's Nick Gabrelcik captured the individual medalist at 13-under, rattling off a final-round 64 for the win. The Green and Blue sank the fourth most pars among the field with 173.
Matt Millar paced the FGCU starting five in the swamp. At two-over, Millar tied for 27th, highlighted by a bogey-free front nine performance Saturday.
Joseph Sullivan carded a team-low round 67 in Friday's second round. Sullivan entered the clubhouse tied for 35th and produced a team-leading 10 birdies over his three rounds of play. Austin Cherichella emerged as the only Eagle to sign a sub-70 scorecard Saturday with his final-round 68, climbing up 31 positions to tie for 45th.
FGCU returns to the course March 11-12 to compete in the Auburn Tiger Invitational in Opelika, Alabama.
