Florida Gulf Coast University men's golf capped day one of the Sea Best Invitational at TPC Sawgrass in fifth place.
"Our team did a great job managing the day," head coach Andrew Danna said. "The conditions were tough today. I'm really proud of our team's effort. We'll look to correct a few things tomorrow and be more consistent."
FGCU climbed up two slots during the second round of play, posting a 284. The Eagles (+18) trail UTSA by a single shot for fourth place and are just four strokes back of third-place Louisville. FGCU is positioned ahead of three Atlantic Sun Conference members competing in the tournament.
Florida paces the strong 15-team field at two-over heading into Tuesday's final round. Florida's very own Ian Gilligan leads the field at three-under.
Three Eagles are reside within top 25 or better on the player leaderboard. Matt Millar highlighted the Eagles' starting five Monday, currently tying for 11th with two consistent outings. Millar sank a team-leading eight birdies en route to back-to-back rounds of 71 (+2).
Brody Stevenson emerged tied for 19th at four-over, improving by two strokes in round two, and Joseph Sullivan is tied for 21st, just one shot behind his teammate. Sullivan soared up 13 spots on the individual leaderboard, closing with a 71 after opening with a 74.
Four Eagles posted a 71 to end the day: Millar, Steveson, Sullivan and Christian Figueredo. Figueredo also shaved two strokes for his second-round 71, while Austin Cherichella improved the most from round-to-round by cutting five shots.
FGCU is scheduled to tee off Tuesday's final round at 8 a.m.
