CINCINNATI – Florida Gulf Coast University men's golf is perched in eighth place after two rounds of the Bearcat Invitational Monday at Coldstream Country Club.
"I'm really proud of our team," head coach Andrew Danna said. "We started relatively slow today, but we were able to find some momentum throughout the day. We'll look to finish well tomorrow in the final round."
FGCU finished the day on a high note by shaving three strokes off its opening round score of 288. The Eagles' 285 round-two effort tied a season-low and helped FGCU climb up two spots on the team leaderboard.
FGCU (+5) enters Tuesday's final round six strokes ahead of fellow Atlantic Sun Conference member Jacksonville (+11) and four shots ahead of Virginia Tech (+9).
Tournament host Cincinnati leads the 17-team field at 12-under-par. The Bearcats also claim the top spot on the individual leaderboard as Connor McNeely sits atop the chart at nine-under. McNeely boasted an opening-round 65.
Two Eagles reside within the top 25. Matt Millar and Sebastian Gamboa are tied for 22nd at even-par. Millar fired a four-under 67 to begin the day, while Gamboa scratched his own 67 in round two, improving by eight strokes for a career-low round.
Austin Cherichella sank a par-five eagle opportunity to highlight his round two performance, currently tying for 38th.
