JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. – Florida Gulf Coast University men's golf closed out round one of the ETSU Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate Sunday tied for ninth.
FGCU is positioned in a four-way tie alongside Charleston, Penn State and Rutgers at three-over-par (291). Furman paces the 15-team field at 10-under.
"I'm really proud of our team," head coach Andrew Danna said. "We got off to a slow start, but were able to hang in there throughout the day. We are looking forward to another opportunity to compete tomorrow."
Two Eagles are parched Top 15 on the player leaderboard heading into moving day as Austin Cherichella and Joseph Sullivan are tied for 15th. Both Cherichella and Sullivan sank three connective birdies on the back nine en route to an one-under 71, their sixth par or better round of the season.
Matt Millar is tied for 32nd, opening with a 73. Sebastian Gamboa and Evan Thompson recorded a pair of 76s to round out the FGCU starting five.
East Tennessee State's Mats Ege sits atop the player leaderboard at 10-under, firing an impressive opening round of 62.
Round two of the three-day event is scheduled for Tuesday with the third and final round of competition slated for Wednesday's action.
