FORT MYERS, Fla. – After tying for sixth at the UNF Collegiate this past Monday and Tuesday, junior
Laura Edmonds (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Cypress Bay) has been named the ASUN Co-Golfer of the Week as announced by the league office. For Edmonds, this is her fourth weekly honor and first of the 2021 campaign.
She shared the honor with Christin Eisenbeiss of North Florida who also tied for sixth individually at the UNF Collegiate.
"Congrats to Laura on yet another ASUN Golfer of the Week accolade! She has been such a rock for us over the years; we always know we can count on her," said head coach
Sarah Trew. "Even when she doesn't have her best game, she always finds a way to get the ball in the hole. This past tournament was a testament to that and as we come into the home stretch of our season, it's nice to know we can depend on her score day in and day out."
Edmonds tied for sixth individually as she led the Eagles to a fifth-place team finish. She posted a season low 54-hole total of 219 which included two rounds at par (72). The junior led the field with 11 birdies including five in Tuesday's final round.
Through 10 rounds this season, Edmonds is posting an average score of 74.00 which is currently the second-best on the team.
This is the second weekly honor for FGCU as sophomore
Sarah Edwards (Jay, Fla./Jay) also was named the league's golfer of the week on Feb. 11 following her winning the Mid-American Challenge.
The Eagles will return to action this upcoming Monday and Tuesday, March 15-16, at the Spring Break Shootout which will be co-hosted by Western Kentucky and FGCU at the Lake Jovita Country Club in Dade City, Fla.
