FORT MYERS, Fla. – Following a nearly two-week break, the FGCU men's tennis team (0-3, 0-0 ASUN) is scheduled for an in-state road trip this weekend that will feature matches at No. 19 UCF (3-2, 1-0 American) and Miami (3-2, 2-0 ACC). The Eagles will first take on the Knights on Friday, Feb. 26 at 1 p.m. on their home courts in Orlando before heading to Coral Gables on Saturday, Feb. 27 to face off against Miami at 1 p.m. at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.

Friday's match will be streamed on the USTA National Campus website and live stats will be available for both.

The Eagles
In its most recent outing, FGCU dropped a hard-fought battle to the No. 9 Texas A&M Aggies on Valentine's Day.  The Eagles were swept 7-0 in their first time hosting a ranked opponent at The Nest since the 2018 season.

Despite the loss, the doubles pair of redshirt-junior Juan Montes (Pereira, Colombia/Colegio Lujan) and redshirt-sophomore Pedro Maciel (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Goliath Academy) shined, handing their Texas A&M opponents a 7-6 defeat at the No. 2 spot.

Redshirt-freshman Magnus Johnson (Naples, Fla./Homeschool/UCF) suffered his first singles loss of the season, falling in straight-sets to Valentin Vacherot, who was ranked as high as No. 3 in the nation during the 2019-20 season. Despite the setback, Johnson still owns a 2-1 mark at the top singles spot.

The Knights
UCF has been ranked for the entirety of the 2021 season, checking in as high as No. 16 at one point. The team is coming off a 7-0 sweep of ASUN Conference member UNF. Prior to the win over the Ospreys, UCF dropped a 4-3 loss to No. 9 Texas A&M.

Prior to the suspension of the 2019-20 season, the Knights were on an eight-match winning streak. The span featured a 4-3 victory over No. 20 Texas Tech, as well as triumphs over both Illinois (4-3) and Virginia (6-1), both of which were receiving votes in the national polls. In his fifth season at the helm, head coach John Roddick returned eight Knights from 2019-20 to this year's team.

Friday's match will be the eighth in the history between the two teams, which currently favors UCF 7-0. The last time the programs faced off was during the 2017 season.

The Hurricanes
This Saturday's match will be Miami's fourth at home this season. The Hurricanes have posted a 2-1 mark on their home courts so far, which includes their two most recent victories over Georgia Tech (6-1) and Clemson (4-3).

Last year's team posted a 10-2 mark, which included a perfect 3-0 record against ACC Conference opponents before the season was cancelled due to COVID-19. The 'Canes closed things out on a six-match winning streak, which included a 4-0 triumph over the Eagles at The Nest.

Like FGCU, Miami also advanced to the 2019 NCAA Tournament. Though they did not win the ACC Championship, the Hurricanes received an at-large bid. Miami fell 4-0 in its first-round matchup against Arizona State.

The Eagles are 1-3 all-time in matches against the Hurricanes, a mark that is highlighted by a 4-1 victory from 2015. That win was claimed while on the road in Coral Gables.

CJ WEBER
FGCU is led by three-time ASUN Coach of the Year CJ Weber, who has coached 32 ASUN All-Conference selections since joining the Green and Blue in 2011. In his seventh year, Weber has compiled a 97-84 (.541) overall record and a 38-18 (.672) record in ASUN play. In 2014-15, Weber guided the Eagles to their first-ever ASUN Championship and first-ever ASUN Regular Season title after a program-best 17 wins. In his third season, Weber led Jordi Vives to a No. 35 national ranking, a nation-leading 14-match unbeaten streak and the round of 32 in the 2014 NCAA Tournament - the program's first appearance. The Eagles completed a perfect ASUN regular season in both 2015 and 2016, finishing with conference titles as well as a Coach of the Year honor for Weber. FGCU again won the 2017 ASUN Championship and made its second NCAA appearance. The Eagles returned to the mountaintop by claiming the 2019 regular season and tournament championships. Weber earned his third ASUN Coach of the Year honor and led the Green and Blue to their third trip to the NCAA Tournament.
