@FGCU_MTen continues home slate against UNC Asheville, UNC Wilmington

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU men's tennis team (4-6, 1-0 ASUN) will continue its long home swing with two matches in as many days at the FGCU Tennis Complex. The Eagles will host UNC Asheville for a meet at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13 before facing off against UNC Wilmington at 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 14.

"This is the first time we've played UNC Asheville and it's always fun playing someone new," head coach CJ Weber said. "They have the No. 1 doubles team in the country in their program so that's exciting, as well. We played UNC Wilmington last year and they are good year in and year out. That's a great match for us, as well."

Last Time Out
•     The Eagles led a well-balanced attack against the George Washington Colonials, earning a 5-2 victory last Sunday afternoon at the FGCU Tennis Complex.
•     FGCU started off the match by continuing to build on its recent strength in doubles play. The pair of Juan Montes (Pereira, Colombia) and Pedro Maciel (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Goliath Academy) was the first to finish, claiming a 6-2 victory on court No. 3. Feliksas Sakalauskas (Palanga, Lithuania/Virginia Tech) and Felipe Ramirez (Armenia, Colombia/Florida Virtual School) followed up with a victory of their own at court No. 2 that secured the doubles point for the Eagles.
•     In singles play, four different FGCU athletes earned points. Marcelo Tebet (Londrina, Brazil/Colégio Anglo Americano), Montes, Sakalauskas and Ramirez all won straight-set matches at their respective courts to power the team towards its victory.

Scouting the Bulldogs
•     UNC Asheville enters Wednesday's match with a 10-2 overall record and has yet to have any matchups in Big South Conference play.
•     The Bulldogs were on a 10-match winning streak before falling at College of Charleston (4-3) and at No. 48 FAU (4-0).
•     The duo of Henry Patten and Oli Nolan has been ranked at No. 1 in the nation in doubles play since Feb. 6 and currently owns a 7-0 record.
•     In singles play, Patten owns a 6-2 record at court No. 1 and Nolan is 5-3 on court No. 2.

Scouting the Seahawks
•     UNC Wilmington is currently 6-6, but will face off against the Miami Hurricanes before taking on FGCU. The Seahawks compete in the Colonial Athletic Association.
•     Michael Copeland and Cole Groetsch have earned a 5-4 record in doubles play at court No. 1.
•     Austin Hussey owns the best record of the team in singles play (7-2). Hussey is 1-0 at court No. 1, 2-2 at court No. 2 and 4-0 at court No. 3.
•     Last year, the Eagles took on the Seahawks in a match in Orlando at the ITA Kickoff.
•     The Seahawks, who were the reigning CAA champions, narrowly edged out a 4-3 victory over the Green and Blue.

CJ WEBER
FGCU is led by CJ Weber who has coached 29 ASUN All-Conference selections since joining the Green and Blue in 2011. In his seventh year, Weber has compiled an 86-74 (.537) overall record and a 32-18 (.640) record in ASUN play. In his third season, Weber led Jordi Vives to a No. 35 national ranking, a nation-leading 14-match unbeaten streak and the round of 32 in the 2014 NCAA Tournament - the program's first appearance. The Eagles completed consecutive perfect ASUN seasons in 2016 and back-to-back conference titles as well as a second-straight Coach of the Year honor for Weber. FGCU again won the ASUN Championship in 2017, advancing to its second NCAA Tournament.
