ATLANTA, Ga. – Following his two-goal performance over the 2017 Big South Champion Presbyterian College, freshman
O'Vonte Mullings was named the ASUN Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
It's the first time since Oct. 17, 2016, an Eagle received this honor (
Arion Sobers-Assue) and also marks the first freshman to garner the award after Deniz Dogan captured such for Stetson last fall (Oct. 2).
Mullings (Toronto, Ontario/ Northview Heights Secondary) not only earns his first career ASUN player of the Week honor but in the process the newcomer tallied his first collegiate goal while tacking on the insurance to seal the match for the Green and Blue Sunday afternoon.
After a scoreless battle midway through the first period against the Blue Hose, Mullings connected on a long cross from the foot of sophomore
Chris Clement (Mallorca, Spain/Lycee Francais de Palma) and headed home the first goal of the match in the 26th minute. Shortly after the halftime intermission, the Eagles struck again in the 53rd tick.
Developing in the middle of the field, junior
Jahan Rajaee (Gainesville, Fla./F.W. Buchholz) swung a pass to his right over to Clement who with two touches, crossed it inside the five-yard box finding Mullings for the easy tap-in en route to the Eagles (1-1) picking up their first win of the young 2018 season.
Mullings currently leads all ASUN men's soccer players with two goals along with his four points.

FGCU will host national powerhouse Wake Forest (2-0) this Saturday, Sept. 1 at the FGCU Soccer Complex for its home-opener at 7 p.m. The Demon Deacons, who were ranked #5 entering the weekend, defeated #2 Indiana 2-1 in double overtime Friday night and followed it up with a 4-2 victory over ETSU Sunday night. Based on each of the results this past weekend of the four teams ranked ahead of them in the pre-season poll, it's very likely that Wake Forest could be elevated to #1 in the nation when the rankings are released tomorrow.
