Definition of a Booster
A booster or "representative of the institution's athletics interests" is an individual, independent agency, corporate entity (e.g., apparel or equipment manufacturer) or other organization who is known (or who should have been known) by FGCU to:

(a) Have participated in or to be a member of an agency or organization promoting FGCU’s intercollegiate athletics program (Eagles Club, Night at the Nest, Leave a Legacy, Eagles Scholarships, etc.);

(b) Have made financial contributions to the FGCU athletics department or to the Eagles Club;

(c) Be assisting or to have been requested (by the FGCU athletics department staff) to assist in the recruitment of prospective student-athletes;

(d) Be assisting or to have assisted in providing benefits to enrolled student-athletes or their families (providing employment or occasional meals); or

(e) Have been involved otherwise in promoting the FGCU athletics program

The NCAA stipulates that once an individual has been identified as a "representative" of Florida Gulf Coast University’s athletic programs he or she retains this status forever. This is true even if the individual no longer contributes to the athletics program.

16.5.2.4 Meals Provided by a Representative of Athletics Interests. [A]
A student-athlete or the entire team in a sport may receive an occasional meal from a representative of athletics interests on infrequent and special occasions.

  1. The meal may only be provided in an individual's home, on campus or at a facility that is regularly used for home competition and may be catered; and

  2. A representative of the institution's athletics interests may provide reasonable local transportation to student-athletes to attend the meal function only if the meal function is at the home of that representative.

  • FGCU defines an occasional meal as no more than 2 times per month. If you wish to host a student-athlete for an occasional meal, please contact the Compliance Office or the student-athletes coach with any questions and make sure you complete the Occasional Meal Form prior to the meal.
