@FGCU_WGolf Finishes 10th Among Stacked Field At McNamara Invitational

TULSA, Okla. - The FGCU women's golf team improved one spot with a final-round 307 to finish 10th in the Dale McNamara Invitational at Tulsa Country Club on Tuesday. The Eagles totaled a 930 (+90) over three rounds.

It represented the final round of the regular season for the Green and Blue. Next up is the ASUN Championship April 22-24 in Braselton, Ga.

"Today was a little better for us," FGCU head coach Sarah Trew said. "We shot our best score and all four scores were in the 70s. We talked yesterday about how we have not finished outside the top-10 all year, and we weren't about to start now.

"I am happy about the way we rebounded and capped off our final regular season round. We have some things to fine tune before conference, but we have a week and a half to address the issues we need to. We are looking forward to putting in hard work and performing well at the ASUN tournament."

Natalia Nassar (Floridablanca, Colombia/Colegio Panamericano) led the way once again by producing her second 75 (+5) of the tournament. She finished with a 230 (+20) and tied for 33rd individually. Ailsa Clark (Navarre, Fla./Navarre HS) had her best round of the tournament by shooting a 76 (+6) to record a 236 (+26) for a 46th place tie.

Kelsy Holbert (Lutz, Fla./Steinbrenner HS) finished second on the team with a final-round 77, which was her second best round behind the 75 she produced in the second round on Monday. She tallied a 233 (+23) and tied for 37th. Kate Williamson (Deerfield Beach, Fla./Archbishop McCarthy HS) finished with a 235 (+25) following a final-round 79 and tied for 43rd.

Madeline Marck-Sherk (Ridgeway, Ontario/Ridgeway Crystal Beach HS) rounded out the lineup with a 240 (+30) and tied for 57th.

The McNamara Invitational featured the toughest and deepest slate of competition the Eagles have faced all spring as a total of six GolfStat top-100 teams were in the event - matching the total number the Green and Blue had faced up to this point in the spring season. In fact, FGCU had not faced more than two top-100 teams in any tournament this spring.

DALE MCNAMARA
McNamara coached 26 years at The University of Tulsa and took the golf program from the ground floor to national prominence, winning four national championships. Her first national crown came at the 1980 AIAW National Championship. McNamara's 1982 team won the final AIAW Championship, while winning the first-ever NCAA Championship that same season. Led by individual champion and her daughter Melissa, Tulsa's 1988 team captured the school's fourth national golf title and second NCAA crown. McNamara retired from coaching following the 1999-2000 season after winning 81 tournament titles and coaching 28 first or second team All-Americans.

COACH TREW
Head coach Sarah Trew is in her 7th season at the helm of the FGCU women's golf team. She took over in 2011 and has since guided the Eagles to the program's best-ever finish in the ASUN Tournament and 29 top-5 finishes. The 2013-14 squad set a new single-season scoring record with a team average of 307.88, while also setting a new benchmark academically. The spring of 2015 saw the Eagles again take third place at the ASUN Championship, and recording their best team score of the season while 2016 again set a new standard. In 2015-16, Trew earned her first ASUN Coach of the Year title after the squad recorded a new program best with a 305.29 average and took second-place at the conference tournament – the program's best finish in the event. In the second round of that tournament, the Eagles carded a team score of 290 to set a low-round program record. The 2016-17 Eagles repeated that success with another second-place finish in the ASUN Championship and for the third time since Trew took over, set a new record with a 302.30 stroke average on the season.
