AMELIA ISLAND, Fla. - The FGCU women's golf team jumped two spots on the final day of the Amelia Island Collegiate to finish fourth among 15 teams.
The Eagles shot a 297 (+9) in the final round, which was the third best score among all teams and tied for the 20th best round in program history. They jumped two spots from the first day, which tied UAB for the largest jump in place. Overall, they tied Jacksonville State with a three-round total of 904 (+40).
"We had things going pretty well today, but mixed in a couple rough holes," FGCU head coach
Sarah Trew said. "We played 18 +8 as a team and were at a point where our round could have gone a couple different ways. I am very proud of the way we came back and played our last three holes 2-under collectively. We definitely have some things to work on, but I think we can correct those in the next couple weeks and be ready for the Spring Break Shootout (hosted by WKU)."
Trew was also happy that her team had four individuals finish in the top-25, which is something that hadn't been done this year and last happened in last spring's ASUN Championship.
Kate Williamson shot a team-low 71 in the final round, and
Kelsy Holbert finished just two strokes behind that. Both totals were the best rounds of the tournament for the duo, while Williamson's 71 was the lowest among all FGCU golfers in the tournament. Overall,
Williamson (Deerfield Beach, Fla./Archbishop McCarthy HS) tied
Natalia Nassar (Floridablanca, Colombia/Colegio Panamericano) for a three-round total of 225, which was good for a 15th place tie individually.
Madeline Marck-Sherk (Ridgeway, Ontario/Ridgeway Crystal Beach HS) totaled 227 (+11) and finished tied for 20th.
Holbert (Lutz, Fla./Steinbrenner HS) tied for 23rd with a 228 (+12), and
Ailsa Clark (Navarre, Fla./Navarre HS) tied for 56th with a 237 (+21).
Campbell University tied Daytona State for first place and won the tiebreaker based off the lowest individual score from round three.

NEXT UP
Following this event, FGCU will be back in action at the WKU Spring Break Shootout March 12-13 in Dade City, Fla. It will be the third of six events for the Eagles this spring prior to the ASUN Championship April 22-24.
COACH TREW
Head coach Sarah Trew is in her 7th season at the helm of the FGCU women's golf team. She took over in 2011 and has since guided the Eagles to the program's best-ever finish in the ASUN Tournament and 24 top-5 finishes. The 2013-14 squad set a new single-season scoring record with a team average of 307.88, while also setting a new benchmark academically. The spring of 2015 saw the Eagles again take third place at the ASUN Championship, and recording their best team score of the season while 2016 again set a new standard. In 2015-16, Trew earned her first ASUN Coach of the Year title after the squad recorded a new program best with a 305.29 average and took second-place at the conference tournament – the program's best finish in the event. In the second round of that tournament, the Eagles carded a team score of 290 to set a low-round program record. The 2016-17 Eagles repeated that success with another second-place finish in the ASUN Championship and for the third time since Trew took over, set a new record with a 302.30 stroke average on the season.
