@FGCU_MTen Looks to Start New Streak Against Charlotte, Tennessee Tech

FORT MYERS, Fla. – While a run of 15-straight wins at the FGCU Tennis Complex came to an end two weeks ago, the FGCU men's tennis team looks to start a new streak this weekend against Charlotte and Tennessee Tech.

The weekend begins with a 6 p.m. contest Friday against Charlotte and the weekend concludes with a 6 p.m. match against Tennessee Tech.

LAST TIME OUT
FGCU split its first two home matches of the season, beginning with a 7-0 victory over Bethune-Cookman. A short-handed FGCU team cruised past the Wildcats in a match that witnessed the first career wins for Felipe Ramirez (Armenia, Colombia/Florida Virtual School) and the first career singles win for Pedro Carle (Daireuax, Argentina/Instituto Vocacional Argentino/College of the Desert).

Saturday however marked the end of FGCU's home winning-streak. Facing FAU, the Eagles were again short-handed and fell 4-0. FGCU was unable to overcome a tough doubles point to come back in the match.

PROTECTING THE NEST
Despite the loss, FGCU remains a very tough team to beat at home. Over the previous three seasons, the Green and Blue hold a 17-2 record at the FGCU Tennis Complex.

SCOUTING THE 49ERS
Charlotte comes to Fort Myers with a 5-3 record and a .500 record or better at five of the six singles positions. Sam Rice has won six of his eight matches at No. 1 and Leonardo Menezes holds a 3-1 mark at No. 2.

The 49ers are undefeated at No. 3 doubles, thanks to a 3-0 record from Oriol Puig Forne and Alejandro Garcia Moreno. At No. 1, Mex Benaim and Constandinos Christoforou have a perfect 4-0 mark.

This will be the first meeting between FGCU and Charlotte.

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN EAGLES
Tennessee Tech enters the weekend 3-2 overall and is led by Eduardo Mena, who is 4-1 at No. 1 singles. The No. 2, 3 and 4 spots in the lineup have struggled this season, all hold .500 or worse records.

In doubles, Esteban and Mena have produced a 2-3 record from the top position while the Golden Eagles have used six different combinations at the remaining two double positions.

FGCU and Tennessee Tech have met once before, a 5-2 victory for the Green and Blue last season in Fort Myers.

NEXT UP
The Eagles head east to face Miami in Coral Gables for a Saturday afternoon contest.

CJ WEBER
FGCU is led by CJ Weber who has coached 23 ASUN All-Conference selections since joining the Green and Blue in 2011. In his fifth year, Weber has compiled a 66-46 (.600) overall record and a 26-11 (.694) record in ASUN play. In 2014-15, Weber guided the Eagles to their first-ever Atlantic Sun Championship and first-ever Atlantic Sun Regular Season title after a program-best 17 wins. In his third season, Weber led Jordi Vives to a No. 35 national ranking, a nation-leading 14-match unbeaten streak and the round of 32 in the 2014 NCAA Tournament - the program's first appearance. The Eagles completed consecutive perfect ASUN seasons in 2016 and back-to-back conference titles as well as a second-straight Coach of the Year honor for Weber.
