CHARLESTON, S.C. – Florida Gulf Coast men's soccer will return to the pitch for its second game of 2026 at 7 p.m. on Sunday night at College of Charleston.

The Eagles (0-1-0) opened the campaign with a 3-1 loss to Georgia Southern despite a 9-6 lead in second half shot attempts. The physical contest, which saw seven combined yellow cards issued and 26 fouls called, also tilted in Georgia Southern's favor, as a FGCU yellow card set up Georgia Southern's final goal.

Aron Martinez scored his first Division I goal on a second half penalty kick set up by a Georgia Southern handball in the box. Newcomers Hugo Munter and Marco Santana played all 90 minutes for FGCU, and 17 Eagles recorded minutes in the opener. Brooks Beeman led FGCU with four shot attempts and Marcelo Lacayo recorded six saves in goal for FGCU in the loss.

The Eagles lost the fifth-most percentage of minutes in NCAA Division I men's soccer from 2025 to 2026, as the departing players accounted for 81.3% of FGCU's minutes in 2025. Only Gardner-Webb, Campbell, Hofstra and Penn State lost a higher percentage of their team's minutes heading into the 2026 campaign.

Charleston (0-0-1) earned a draw in its season opener against Davidson. The Cougars broke through with a score in the ninth minute, but the Wildcats leveled the contest just before halftime. Matt Lenert scored the goal for CofC off an assist from Ryan Wilson. Neither side found the net in the second half for a 1-1 tie.

In 2025, the Cougars went 6-8-3, with a 4-4-2 mark at home. Charleston lost 3-0 to North Florida in its lone ASUN contest one year ago.

FGCU and Charleston have met once in program history, with the Cougars taking a 1-0 victory in 2009.

The game will kick off at 7 p.m., and will be streamed on FloCollege and Prime Video.
