ATHENS, Ga. - The Florida Gulf Coast University women's golf team opened play at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic on Saturday, sitting tied for ninth place at 17-over par after the first round at the UGA Golf Course. The Eagles are tied with Kennesaw State and sit two strokes back on No. 42 Indiana.
FGCU was paced by
Amelie Alcantara, who led the Eagles at 2-over and sits tied for 14th after a steady round built on 12 pars.
Leonie Wulfers added a 3-over 75 to place tied for 22nd, while
Lousiane Gauthier and
Islay Benoit each carded 6-over rounds to sit tied for 48th.
Sydney Deal rounded out the lineup at 7-over, tied for 58th, as all five golfers contributed to a balanced team effort that has the Eagles tied for ninth heading into round two.

Amelie Alcantara led the way for FGCU, finishing tied for 14th at 2-over par with a 74. She delivered a steady round that featured a two birdies and 12 pars, tied for the 10th most in the field.
Leonie Wulfers followed with a 3-over 75, placing her tied for 22nd. She recorded two birdies and 11 pars, tying for the 25th most in the field.
Lousiane Gauthier and
Islay Benoit are both tied for 48th at 6-over par after rounds of 78. Gauthier highlighted her round with 12 pars, tying for the 10th most in the field, while Benoit added a birdie and recorded 10 pars, tying for the 43rd most in the field.
Sydney Deal rounded out the lineup tied for 58th at 7-over par after her opening-round 79. She totaled 11 pars, also tied for the 25th most in the field, and added a birdie while battling through a difficult stretch.
As a team, FGCU recorded 56 pars on the day, the fourth-most among all teams in the field, showcasing a steady approach despite challenging scoring conditions.
The Eagles will look to climb the leaderboard in the second round as play continues in Athens on Sunday.
