GREENVILLE, S.C. - Florida Gulf Coast's women's golf team closed out the Lady Paladin Invitational in eighth place at Furman University Golf Course, posting an 8-over 296 in the final round for a 54-hole total of 16-over 880.
 
FGCU finished 38 shots behind champion Alabama, which closed at 22-under 842. The Eagles finished four shots behind seventh-place Georgia State and two ahead of ninth-place Minnesota.
 
Charlene Lamb finished tied for 22nd at 2-over 218 for the tournament after a 2-over 74 in the final round. She recorded four birdies on the day, three on the front nine at Nos. 2, 3 and 6, and another at the par-3 16th, to go along with three bogeys.
 
Sarah Hyten posted the low round for the Eagles in the final round, carding a 1-over 73 to finish tied for 24th at 3-over 219. She led all Eagles with six birdies in the round, opening with birdies at Nos. 3 and 6 on the front nine before catching fire late with birdies at 11, 13, 15 and 16 on the back.
 
Annie Yost finished tied for 30th at 6-over 222 after carding a 3-over 75, with birdies at the par-3 eighth and the par-5 13th.
 
Sydney Deal finished tied for 38th at 8-over 224 after a 4-over 76, opening with three front-nine birdies at Nos. 1, 5 and 6 before three late bogeys and a rough stretch on the back nine.
 
Gia Culler-Guerra finished tied for 46th at 11-over 227 following a 2-over 74, with birdies at Nos. 14 and 18 on the back nine.
 
Competing as an individual, junior Ann Burel matched Hyten's low round of the day for the Eagles, carding a 1-over 73. She caught fire on the back nine with four birdies at Nos. 12, 15, 16 and 17, and finished tied for 56th at 15-over 231.
 
As a team, FGCU posted the third-most pars in the field for the tournament (168). Lamb and Hyten tied for 20th most birdies in the field with 10 apiece. Yost tied for sixth most pars in the field with 36, Culler-Guerra tied for 13th most with 35, Deal tied for 20th most with 34, and Lamb tied for 27th most with 33.
 
"I was really proud of how this team competed all weekend," head coach Shannon Sykora said.
