ATHENS, Ga. - The Florida Gulf Coast University women's golf team will travel to Athens, Ga. to compete in the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic on March 28-30. The Eagles will be represented by
Leonie Wulfers,
Amelie Alcantara,
Lousiane Gauthier,
Sydney Deal and
Islay Benoit.
The Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic will take place at the UGA Golf Course, which is a par 72, 6,217-yard course. Teams participating in the tournament alongside FGCU include Alabama, host Georgia, High Point, No. 42 Indiana, Jacksonville State, James Madison, Kennesaw State, Old Dominion, Penn State, Queens, Rutgers, South Alabama, Toledo, Western Carolina and Western Kentucky.
The last time out for the Eagles was earlier in the week at the Bell Bank "Pay it Forward" Collegiate, where FGCU turned in one of its strongest performances of the season, finishing second overall at 16-under par. The Eagles placed all five golfers inside the top 20 while leading the field with 63 birdies and recording 160 pars, tied for the most among all teams. FGCU also finished with the fewest bogeys in the tournament, highlighting its consistency across all three rounds.
Amelie Alcantara and
Leonie Wulfers led the way for FGCU, with both golfers finishing tied for seventh at 4-under par. Alcantara posted rounds of 70, 67 and 72, totaling 15 birdies to tie for the third-most in the field. Wulfers recorded rounds of 69, 68 and 72, also finishing with 15 birdies to match Alcantara.
Lousiane Gauthier finished tied for 12th at 3-under par, highlighted by a final-round 67 that included five birdies and just one bogey, helping her climb 14 spots on the leaderboard. She totaled 11 birdies and added 35 pars over the three rounds.
Sydney Deal placed tied for 15th at 1-under par after rounds of 74, 68 and 70. She rebounded from her opening round with two under-par performances, including a 1-under final round that featured six birdies, five coming on the back nine.
Islay Benoit rounded out the lineup tied for 19th at even par with rounds of 72, 70 and 71. Benoit closed with an even-par final round and recorded nine birdies along with 36 pars, tied for 11th-most in the field.
The Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic marks the final regular-season tournament for the Eagles before postseason play. FGCU will next travel to Dothan, Ala. for the ASUN Championship, scheduled for April 17-19.
