Eagles Sit Third After Strong Second Round Surge in Arizona

LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. - The Florida Gulf Coast University women's golf team completed the opening two rounds of the Bell Bank "Pay it Forward" Collegiate on Monday, sitting in third place at 12-under par. The event is being held at Wigwam Golf Club – Blue Course and features a competitive field from across the country. FGCU placed itself firmly in contention after rounds of 1-under and 11-under, trailing only Montana State and USF through 36 holes. 

Amelie Alcantara and Leonie Wulfers paced the Eagles at 5-under, each delivering consistent rounds highlighted by a combined 19 birdies. Sydney Deal bounced back with a 3-under second round to move to even par, while Islay Benoit added steady scoring with a pair of solid rounds to also sit at even. Lousiane Gauthier rounded out the lineup at 1-over, contributing key birdies and pars as the Eagles combined for one of the most efficient performances in the field.

How It Happened
Amelie Alcantara is tied for fifth at 5-under par after rounds of 1-under 70 and 4-under 67. After a steady opening round that featured four birdies and an eagle on the par-5 third, Alcantara surged in round two with six birdies to card a stellar round. She has totaled 11 birdies through two rounds, the fourth most in the field.

Leonie Wulfers also sits tied for fifth at 5-under following rounds of 2-under 69 and 3-under 68. Wulfers was consistent throughout the day, recording four birdies in round one and five birdie in round two while limiting mistakes. She has nine birdies and 23 pars through 36 holes, showcasing her steady play.

Sydney Deal is tied for 19th at even par after posting rounds of 3-over 74 and 3-under 68. After a challenging first round, Deal bounced back in a big way with six birdies in round two, including five on the back nine, to climb the leaderboard.

Islay Benoit is also tied for 19th at even par with rounds of 1-over 72 and 1-under 70. Benoit recorded three birdies round one and four in round two and played steady golf throughout, adding 22 pars and seven total birdies.

Lousiane Gauthier is tied for 25th at 1-over par after rounds of 1-over 72 and even-par 71. She highlighted her tournament with an eagle on the par-5 third in round two, adding seven birdies across the two rounds while maintaining consistent scoring.

The Eagles have been one of the most consistent teams in the field, totaling 107 pars and 41 birdies, both marks ranking second overall, while also recording the second fewest bogeys.

What's Next
FGCU will return to the course Tuesday morning for the final round of the Bell Bank "Pay it Forward" Collegiate.
