Eagles look to continue in-state success Friday at FAU

Ornithological battle in Boca Raton begins at Noon

FORT MYERS, Fla. – A week after FGCU registered a win at USF, the Eagles look to replicate that success when they travel to face Florida Atlantic on Friday at noon in Boca Raton.

FAU (2-2) is making its first appearance on the courts since Jan. 30 when the Owls claimed a 6-1 win over Syracuse. FGCU (5-1) posted a 4-2 win at USF on Feb. 6, extending the team's winning streak this season to three.

This will mark the 10th consecutive year and 19th time overall that the Eagles and Owls will face each other on the courts. FGCU trails in a close series, 10-8, but the Green & Blue look to upend the host Owls on Friday and claim just its second win in the past seven meetings.

Leading the Eagles into Friday's match is newly minted Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week Nora Svensson, who received recognition after extending her singles record to 11-3 this year with a three-set win over the Bulls to clinch the team victory.

June Bjork remains ranked at No. 112 in singles and enters the match with a 6-4 singles record, having won three of her past four decisions.

The Owls are led by junior Lara Smejkal, who has a 3-1 mark in singles and a 3-0 mark in doubles this season.

Friday's match marks the last of this brief two-match road swing as the Eagles return home on Monday to host Southeastern Louisiana at 9 a.m., beginning a six-match homestand.
