ORLANDO, Fla. – The Atlantic Sun Conference should be put on notice that the league's 2026 Freshman of the Year is back and already in midseason form. FGCU's Sabrina Jaramillo, an all-conference honoree last year, won both the singles and doubles titles at the American Tennis Association Women's Open held this past weekend at the USTA National Campus.

Jaramillo's singles title came over a five-star recruit who signed with Michigan State and will join the Spartans in the coming weeks. In doubles, she was joined by St. Francis' Gabriela Almanza to streak through the bracket, topping the duo of Naomi Blanks and Gabriella Blanks. Naomi has gone 10-8 in doubles the past two years at Alabama A&M while Gabrielle went 50-9 in doubles over her collegiate career and has embarked upon achieving her professional aspirations.

In singles action, Jaramillo swept through the bracket, failing to drop a set. In the Round of 16, she faced former SIAC champion Gabrielle Blanks (whom she would eventually face in doubles), dispatching the SIAC singles title winner in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2. Jaramillo breezed past Madison Hill in the quarterfinals as her 7-5, 6-2 score sent her past the former Saint Louis and now Western Kentucky player who went 14-17 over two seasons with the Billikins.

In the semifinals, Jaramillo glided past Florida A&M's Aleynah Thomas, 6-0, 6-1, in the summer after Thomas posted an undefeated singles record for the Rattlers. Then in the championship match, she battled past Amiya Bowles, 6-2, 7-6 (7-5). Bowles is a Michigan State signee who went 64-4 in high school, becoming just the sixth person to ever win three consecutive state Ohio singles titles in her freshman, sophomore and junior years. During Bowles' senior campaign this last spring, she moved over to the boys team and posted a 12-4 mark, advancing to the quarterfinals of the state singles tournament.

In doubles action, Jaramillo and Almanza strolled past a pair of Florida A&M players in Arien Thomas and Aleynah Thomas with a 6-2, 6-1 win in the semifinals. In the championship match, they posted a 3-6, 6-4, 10-6 win over Naomi Blanks and Gabrielle Blanks.

The end-of-summer success comes after being named the ASUN Freshman of the Year and recording 22 singles wins last season, the second-most by a freshman in FGCU program history.

Since 1916, the American Tennis Association (ATA) has been a prolific pipeline for some of the greatest players, coaches, and contributors in tennis history. The ATA National Championships is an annual historic tennis tournament that brings hundreds of players of all ages, backgrounds, and ethnicities to compete on a national stage. With the win, Jaramillo earns a wildcard into a USTA Pro Event.
