GILBERT, Ariz. – Florida Gulf Coast women's tennis set program records over the course of the 2025-26 season and now the country is taking notice. For the first time in three years, the Eagles have been listed in the national rankings released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), coming in at No. 74 in the final rankings for the 2025-26.
The Eagles finished ahead of Colorado in the final rankings and just behind Penn. Wednesday's announcement comes after a record-breaking season where FGCU defeated a ranked opponent for the first time in program history, defeated an Ivy League opponent for the first time in program history and tied the program record for wins in a season (16).
This marks the first time FGCU is in the national rankings since April 24, 2023, when the Eagles were ranked 71
st.
"We had an extremely young team this year," said head coach
Courtney Vernon. "This group grew a lot. They had their first win over a ranked opponent in program history. They continue to excel not only on the court, but in the classroom. Their dedication to not only their sport, but also being the best they can be in the classroom is a testament to achieving this ranking and I'm proud of our ladies."
FGCU was joined in the national ranks by North Florida (No. 49), giving the Atlantic Sun Conference two nationally ranked teams in the final poll of the year.
The Green & Blue, who reached their seventh ASUN Tournament Championship Game this season, returns most of its roster for the 2026-27 campaign.
