FORT MYERS, Fla. – Senior
Isabella Colmenares clinched the match for Florida Gulf Coast University's women's tennis and gave Eagles its second straight 7-0 Atlantic Sun Conference victory sweeping Eastern Kentucky Sunday morning.
The Eagles (10-6, 4-1 ASUN) won the doubles point over the Colonels (8-15, 1-3 ASUN) when Colmenares teamed up with
Ashley Matz on court No. 1 to win 6-4 and
Anjali Kotecha joined forces with
Francisca Vergara to clinch the match with a 6-3 showing on court No. 3.
Singles would be no different for the Eagles as Matz took the lead with a 6-2, 6-0 victory on court No. 1. Kotecha did the same and delivered a 6-0, 6-3 win on court No. 3.
Colmenares won the match for FGCU with a 6-2, 6-4 showing before Vergara earned the Eagles' fifth point on court No. 5 with a 6-2, 6-4 victory.
The Eagles continued adding points with
Nora Svensson going three sets and prevailing 2-6, 7-5, 1-0 (5).
Paloma Goldsmith earned the final point for FGCU delivering a 6-1, 7-6 (4) victory on court No. 6.
FGCU will next hit the road to take on Lipscomb (8-4, 2-1 ASUN) Friday in Nashville, Tennessee at 11 a.m.
