ROME, Ga. – Earlier this fall, junior Nora Svensson became the first FGCU player to win the Bedford Cup singles championship. Now she's achieved another program first after being selected by the Atlantic Sun Conference coaches to represent the ASUN at the ITA Conference Masters Championships beginning Thursday at Shorter University in Rome, Georgia.

Svensson will face Buffalo's Aleksandra Kachushkina, a freshman from Russia who has posted an 8-1 record this fall. Their opening round match is set for 1 p.m. ET on Thursday, Nov. 5. The winner will advance to the Round of 16 to face either Michigan's Reese Miller (4-4) or the fifth-seeded Uma Bakaityte (8-2) of Rice.

Currently 5-1, Svensson's only loss of the fall came against Miami's Raquel Gonzalez in a close 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 decision at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships. She continued on in doubles to advance to the quarterfinals alongside teammate June Bjork, the furthest any FGCU player has ever advanced in singles or doubles at the ITA Regional Championships.
