JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Ozia Trujillo ran a new Atlantic Sun Conference Championship record time of 16:20 to win the women's 5K and lead the Florida Gulf Coast University women's cross country team to a fourth-place team finish. She was named ASUN Runner of the Year.

Trujillo shaved off an incredible 47 seconds from her previous personal best of 17:07.7, a mark that had stood as FGCU's program record. She crossed the line first and brought home the individual title for FGCU for the first time since 2013. The first Eagle to win the race, Kelly Perzanowski, had posted a time of 17:21.02.

"I want to give all the glory to God. With all the training from my coaches and my team together and their support, that's what prepared me," said Trujillo.

The Eagles scored 123 points and improved upon last year's fourth-place finish. They also achieved the best team time average in FGCU's program history. Lipscomb took home the team title with 29 points.

Alise Petrova was the next Eagle across the finish line in 17:34.5, a new personal best, earning 24th place. Freshman Tess Shultz also ran a lifetime best of 17:35.1, becoming the fastest freshman in FGCU history, finishing 25th.

Addison Torres cut 26 seconds off her previous best to run 18:00.5 and finished 39th. Samantha Ruiz rounded out the top five for the Eagles with a time of 18:26.9 for 47th place.

"We are very proud of the women's team for their performance today." said head coach Argeo Cruz. "Their hard training over the summer and team training during the season paid off. They represented the Green and Blue very well."
 
The Eagles will now get ready for the NCAA South Regionals in Huntsville, Alabama on November 14. FGCU Women's Results
