JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Florida Gulf Coast University women's tennis player
Nora Svensson captured the fall individual singles title and, together with
Anjali Kotecha, claimed the doubles crown.
"They were competing against the top players on each team in our conference," said head coach
Courtney Vernon. "This team has a lot of fight, discipline and tenacity, and they are looking forward to competing again at the Bonita."
In the singles round of 16:
- Svensson defeated Mariia Fedenko of Eastern Kentucky University women's tennis 7-5, 6-1.
- Kotecha beat Sasha Parkhomenko of EKU 6-0, 4-6, 10-3.
In quarterfinals:
- Svensson advanced with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Anastasija Adeikyte of Stetson University women's tennis.
- Kotecha fell to Eeva Ristola of University of North Alabama women's tennis 7-5, 6-3.
In the semifinals:
- Svensson kept up consistent pressure and defeated Sofia Paladi of Lipscomb University women's tennis 6-3, 6-1 to advance to the title match.
In the championship match:
- Svensson battled to a 7-6 (4), 2-6, 6-1 victory over Laurie Barendse of University of North Florida women's tennis.
In doubles competition:
- In the quarterfinals, Svensson and Kotecha beat Clelia Lombardi and Anastasija Adeikyte of Stetson 6-2.
- In the semifinals, the pair defeated EKU's Ceylin Ipek and Mariia Fedenko 6-3.
- In the title match, Svensson and Kotecha won 7-5, 3-6, 10-6 to bring home the doubles title.
The Eagles will be back on the court on Nov. 7 - Nov. 9 at the Bonita Bay Collegiate Classic.
