Women's tennis opens season against Middle Tennessee and Minnesota

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast University women's tennis team was picked to finish fourth in the Atlantic Sun Conference Coaches Poll as it prepares to open the season this weekend with two home matches.

The Eagles get started at 10 a.m. Friday at the FGCU Tennis Complex taking on Conference USA  member Middle Tennessee State University. A day later, the Big Ten Conference foe Minnesota visits at 1 p.m. Saturday.
 
FGCU collected 70 points and one first place vote, while Stetson was picked to finish first with 93 points and six first-place votes. Lipscomb University took second place with 78 points and two first-place votes. North Florida also received 78 points but no first-place votes.
 
Austin Peay (59), North Alabama (55), Kennesaw State (72), Central Arkansas (37), Eastern Kentucky (34), Bellarmine (32), and Queens University of Charlotte (12) round out the poll. The Green & Blue begin the 2025 season with 10 straight highly competitive non-conference matches with the first three coming at The Nest.
  
FGCU returns four of its nine players from the 2024 roster and added freshmen Anjali Kotecha, Ashley Matz, Nora Svensson and graduate student Francisca Vergara. FGCU finished its 2024 campaign 14-10 and posted a 7-3 mark in the ASUN Conference.
  
The Blue Raiders recorded an 11-13 campaign with a 3-3 mark in conference in 2024, while the Gophers also went 11-13 and a 4-7 league mark.
