Men's tennis opens season with ranked opponents

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Florida Gulf Coast University men's tennis begins the spring slate against No. 9 Florida State, Georgia Southern and Alabama State this weekend in Tallahassee. In addition to being ranked as a team, Florida State has the ninth and 22nd-ranked singles players as well as three ranked doubles teams at Nos. 6, 47 and 112.

Georgia Southern and Alabama State also have an impressive list of accolades. Georgia Southern has the 84th-ranked singles player and the 54th-ranked doubles team. Alabama State is back-to-back-to-back SWAC Champions and have not lost a regular season SWAC match since 2016.

FGCU returns Hugo Magnusson, a mainstay on court one both for singles and doubles. Pablo Paternostro will bolster the top half of the line up for the Green and Blue with transfers Johnathan Baron and Gustav Hasslegren providing new depth to the FGCU roster.

This will be the first spring season for new head coach Josh Molino. Molino comes to Fort Myers after spending a year as an assistant with Tulsa and five seasons as the head coach at Kansas Welseyan.

The Green and Blue will host their home opener with a doubleheader against Auburn Feb. 16. Admission is free to all FGCU tennis matches.
