Joseph Sullivan maneuvered into a tie for second to highlight Florida Gulf Coast University men's golf in the opening round of the 2024 ASUN Championship in Dothan, Alabama.
"I'm proud of our team," head coach Andrew Danna said. "We are looking forward to another opportunity to compete tomorrow."
Sullivan appeared in Sunday's featured group alongside North Florida's Robbie Higgins and Stetson's Dominic Clemons. Sullivan stepped up with a two-under, 70 showing consisting of four birdies.
He sank three of his four made birdies on the front nine. His first blemish of the day did not occur until hole No. 13. Sullivan sits among a four-way tie and just three strokes off the tournament leader, Lipscomb's Jaron Leasure at five-under.
Matt Millar has also positioned himself near the top of the leaderboard through the first 18. Millar, who is tied for 12th at even-par, matched Sullivan's birdie total and even produced back-to-back red numbers on holes No. 7 and No. 8.
Evan Thompson is making his first ASUN Championship appearance of his career, currently tying for 26th at three-over.
Lipscomb leads the 12-team field at eight-under. The Bisons hold a 10-stroke advantage over second-place Central Arkansas. FGCU (+5) posted a 293 opening-round score to tie for fourth heading into Monday's moving day action.
The Eagles tee off the second round starting at 9 a.m. (ET).
