Florida Gulf Coast University women's golf tied its second-lowest team round of the season in Monday's second round of the Spring Break Shootout in Dade City, Florida.
"It was an up and down day, but we have an opportunity to move up tomorrow," head coach Shannon Sykora said.
FGCU carded a 285 (+1) to close day one, matching its 285 performance on Oct. 9 at the Jupiter Invitational. The Eagles opened Monday's Shootout with a 287, placing fifth overall heading into Tuesday's final round.
Tournament host Western Kentucky leads the 15-team field at 16-under. The Hilltoppers also claim the top spot on the player leaderboard with Catie Craig at 12-under-par.
For the Eagles, Amelie Alcantara is in contention at five-under through the first 36 holes, just seven strokes back of the tournament leader. Alcantara signed back-to-back scorecards in the 60s, 68 and 69 to tie for sixth currently. Alcantara sank three birdies in a span on four holes during her second back-nine turn of the day.
Posie Farrelly has emerged as the next closest Eagle on the player leaderboard, tying for 19th. Her even-par 71 in the opening round was highlighted by three birdies and zero bogeys after the turn.
Anna Claire Bridge produced three birdies in her second round to tie for 27th. Bridge marked one of only two Eagles to card an even par or better round in Monday's second round. Bridge cut three strokes off her round-one 74.
Leonie Wulfers also improved from round to round, shooting second-round 73 to currently tie for 36th. Lousiane Gauthier's back-to-back rounds of 74 positioned her into a tie for 49th.
