FORT MYERS, Fla. – Junior Posie Farrelly earned her first career Atlantic Sun Conference Women's Golfer of the Week recognition Thursday, as announced by the conference office.
"Posie had a great week, and I wouldn't be surprised if it continues this spring," head coach Shannon Sykora said.
Farrelly led all Eagles in Humacao, Puerto Rico, last week with a medalist performance, lifting the Eagles to a team title at the Puerto Rico Classic. Farrelly's (-2) career-best finish on the player leaderboard fell just one stroke short of tournament champion Ava Romfo from UNCG.
The Florida native carded back-to-back even-par rounds of 72 to open the tournament and closed with a two-under 70 (214). In the final round, Farrelly helped the Eagles turn in the fourth-lowest team round in program history (283) to snatch the hardware.
The Eagles ended day one in sixth place, dead middle of a 12-team pack and 15 strokes back of the tournament leader, setting up a comeback for the ages. During day two, FGCU climbed into a tie atop the leaderboard alongside California Baptist and later soared past the competition on day three to win the title convincingly by seven strokes.
The victory marked the second team title under second-year head coach Sykora.
