Izzy Ackley placed fifth in the 100 backstroke, earning herself a medal, and
Cassie Bauer improved her 50 breast time which sits eighth in program history at the US Open in Greensboro, N.C. from Thursday to Saturday.
"I'm very proud of how our ladies competed and represented FGCU on the national stage," head coach
Dave Rollins said. "To see them race and make finals at a meet of this level is an incredible accomplishment. To be as close to their best times as they were was also a huge confidence builder as we reunite with the team and head into our winter training block."
Ackley's performance is the 100 back saw her swim faster than 2020 Tokyo Olympian medalist Rhyan White in prelims and lead after 50 yards in the finals. Ackley would place fifth when the 100 back finished. She also swam in the B-Final of the 200 back, placing 16th.
Bauer took part in the 100 breast with her 50 breast split improving her personal best by 0.1 seconds, the eighth-fastest 50 breast in program history.
The next meet for FGCU is Dec. 19 for the Eagles Holiday Splash which will feature Tulane, UNC Asheville and Indiana State.
