Florida Gulf Coast University swimming and diving traveled across the state to Miami, Florida Friday to compete at the FIU Classic. The Eagles currently place third with 245 points, just eight points behind FAU in second place.
Jordan Durocher touched first in the 400 IM at 4:30.53. Durcoher has earned the most points for the Eagles after day one after swimming a time of 59.01 in the 100 back, securing 28 points on the day.
Izzy Ackley and
Cassie Bauer both scored over 20 points on day one with Ackley scoring 25 points having missed first place in the 100 back by 0.01 seconds. Bauer scored in the 400 IM and 100 breast, totaling 21 points on the day.
The divers competed on the one meter Friday. FGCU divers placed third and fourth.
Bella Pfeil posted a score of 216, good for third place and
Bailey Betzer scored 212.45, placing fourth. Pfeil's best dive was her second dive a back 1 1/2 somersault 1/2 twist free (5231D) which received a 6.5 bingo at a 2.1 DD to score 40.95. Betzer had two dives exceeding 40 points with her forward 2 1/2 somersault pike (105B) scoring 44.20 points and her inward 1 1/2 somersault pike (403B) scoring 43.20 points.
There is one more day left in the FIU Classic. The swimmers will compete in seven events while the divers will compete on the three meter.
