FORT MYERS, Fla. - Florida Gulf Coast University men's soccer returns to the pitch after a postponed match on Saturday at Bellarmine to face Florida Atlantic on Tuesday and Lipscomb on Saturday. The match against Lipscomb will be streamed on ESPN+. Tuesday's match will feature soccer bingo, and Saturday's match will be a Kick Cancer Night. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to promote breast cancer awareness.
FGCU enters the week with four points in Atlantic Sun Conference play in a three-way tie for fifth place with one game in hand. The Eagles are tied with Lipscomb on four points. The midweek match against FAU is the final non-conference match of the year for the Green and Blue.
The Owls have made a tour of the ASUN having already played Stetson, UNF and Jacksonville. FAU is 1-0-1 against ASUN opponents with their match against Stetson being suspended in the 53rd minute. The Owls and Eagles are common opponents, having played each other all but two years since 2007. FGCU is 6-7-2 against FAU.
Lipscomb has been a perennial power in men's soccer, routinely placing in the NCAA Top 25. Last year, the Bisons featured the number one and seven picks in the MLS SuperDraft. This year, Lipscomb has a losing record at 3-5-4 overall and a losing conference record at 1-2-1. Away from home, the Bisons have not won since Aug. 29.
Cao Chaves earned ASUN Co-Player of the Week last week after scoring a goal and assisting on two more. The Brazilian transfer from Jacksonville has been inserted into a more prominent role in recent weeks, providing a significant offensive push.
