FGCU earns another ASUN point with draw against Bellarmine

Aron Martinez nets his conference-leading sixth goal of 2026 in the draw

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast men's soccer earned another conference point at home on Saturday night with a 1-1 draw against Bellarmine.

The Eagles scored first off the left foot of Aron Martinez in the 23rd minute. Martinez played a ball up the far side of the field into the box, then sidestepped before netting his sixth goal of the season. His six scores are tied for the most in the ASUN at the end of Saturday night's contests, and are already the most by an Eagle in a single season since Davi Alves had seven in 2022. He now sits on the precipice of a top-10 goal scoring season in program history; Martinez's next goal will tie for the fifth-most in a single season in FGCU history.

Bellarmine found the equalizer in the 61st minute. Teddy Franke sent one to the back of the net out of a scrum in the box to level the game at 1-1.

Neither team was able to find a game-winning score in the final half hour of play, although the Eagles had multiple opportunities. FGCU outshot Bellarmine 14-7 in the second half and 18-13 on the evening, but Benny Howard made three crucial second half saves off the bench for the Knights. The Eagles also took all eight of their corner kicks in the second half, including three in the final ten minutes of the game.

Flavio D'Angelo saw a late shot from just above the box deflect off the official, and Michael Ndiweni launched the last shot of the game from well outside the box barely wide of the frame as time expired.

The two sides have now drawn in three of their last four meetings, including the last two.

Next, FGCU will honor Brian Lopez, Jai Sahni and Eduard Garcia on senior day in the Eagles' nonconference finale against FAU at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 6, with ceremonies to precede the game.
