DORAL, Fla. - After record-setting performances over 36 holes at the Pat Bradley Invitational Monday, Florida Gulf Coast University women's golf set another program record, finishing with an aggregate score of 834 to win the tournament by 13 strokes Tuesday.
The team win was the second in as many weeks for FGCU after earning the victory in the Johnie Imes Invitational. FGCU has now won its last two tournaments by a combined 28 strokes.
Lousiane Gauthier earned the win in the individual tournament for her third tournament victory worldwide in 2024. One day after setting a school record with a 64 in round two, Gauthier needed to record a birdie on No. 18 to win the tournament. The native of Uruguay rolled in what would prove to be the winning putt to close with a one-under-par round of 70 for the final round and a six-under-par total for the event. Gauthier's win is the second in a row for an FGCU individual as
Amelie Alcantara took the title last week in Missouri.
Matching either of Monday's team scores of 277 and 272 on the Trump National Doral Silver Fox course would be a tall task for FGCU. Entering Tuesday with a 21-stroke lead, the Eagles shot a one-over-par total of 285 to stay well clear of second place Cincinnati at 847. South Alabama placed third with an 858, host FIU moved into fourth with an 864 and Stetson slipped to fifth with an 869.
Three Eagles started the day in a tie for the individual lead, and all would finish in the top 10. Alcantara had a one-over-par 72 to finish in third place, two strokes behind Gauthier.
Leonie Wulfers finished in a tie for sixth after a final round of 74. The Eagles were the only team with three members in the top 10.
Freshman
Islay Benoit was a stroke out of the top 10, concluding her play with a 71 to finish on even par for the round and the tournament.
Posie Farrelly had three consecutive rounds of one-over-par 72 to finish in a tie for 18th. All three of Farrelly's scores counted towards the FGCU team score.
FGCU's previous low aggregate score for a tournament was 847, set at the Atlantic Invitational Feb. 20-21, 2022. Gauthier won that tournament as a freshman and tied the program record with a 65 in the first round. She would break that record in Monday's second round.
The Green and Blue will be idle until Oct. 20 and 21 when it takes part in the Diamante Intercollegiate, hosted by Little Rock in Little Rock, Arkansas.
