Eagles Finish Fourth At Golfweek/AGT Intercollegiate

PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. -- The FGCU women's golf team finished fourth Wednesday at the Golfweek/AGT Intercollegiate.

The Eagles closed the three-day tournament with a 294 team score in the final round. At 886, the Green & Blue finished just two strokes back of third-place UNC Asheville at 884 and four shots behind second-place UNCG at 882.

James Madison captured the team title by posting a 13-over 856 team score.

"We struggled a bit as a team today, but had good rounds from Posie and Leo to hold us up," said FGCU women's golf head coach Shannon Sykora.

Both on Tuesday and during round two, FGCU recorded the second-lowest team round across the 17-team field. The 290 was tied for the third-lowest round carded among any team throughout all three rounds of the event.

FGCU has now placed no lower than fourth in its last four tournaments.

Sophomore Posie Farrelly (Lutz, Fla./George Steinbrenner HS) notched back-to-back top five performances on the individual leaderboard, tying for fifth. Farrelly closed with her best round of the event, a one-under 70 to finish at 2-over-par 215.

After Monday's opening round, freshman Leonie Wulfers (Muenster, Germany/Gymnasium Hochrad) sat tied for 40th on the individual leaderboard. On Wednesday, Wulfers finished the tournament tied for 14th, surging up 26 spots over the final two rounds. Wulfers improved each round and ended with her tournament-best, even-par 71.

Coastal Carolina's Sara Sarrion won the individual title by shooting a final-round and tournament-low 66 to finish at 5-under.

As a team, FGCU tied event-champion James Madison for second overall in made pars with 167 and placed fifth in made birdies with 31.

Freshman Lousiane Gauthier (Canelones, Uruguay/Colegio Stella Maris) led all Eagles in birdies category, carding eight over the course of the tournament, but finished tied for 46th.

Sophomore Anna Claire Bridge (Collierville, Tenn./Collierville HS/FAU) placed tied for 29th, and freshman Grace Rigby-Walden (Gerrards Cross, England/The Chalfonts Community College) finished tied for 35th to round out the FGCU starting five in the Palmetto State.

On Tuesday, Bridge recorded the highest one-round jump up the individual leaderboard among any Eagle at the event by climbing 32 spots.

FGCU will return to action April 3-4 for its last regular-season tournament, the Ironwood Invitational hosted by East Carolina in Greenville, N.C.
