Wulfers Finishes Tied For Ninth To Lead FGCU At Lady Paladin Intercollegiate

GREENVILLE, S.C. - Freshman Leonie Wulfers (Germany) finished tied for ninth to lead all Eagles at the Lady Paladin Intercollegiate Sunday

Wulfers carded a three-round score of 217 to enter the clubhouse 1-over par in her first-ever collegiate event. On Friday, she opened the tournament with a 1-under 71.

Wulfers then carded an even-par round (72) on moving-day Saturday and closed with a 74.

Only eight golfers in a field of 95 finished with an under-par score. Wulfers sank the third most pars among any golfer, 39 total. She excelled on par 5s throughout the weekend, tallying a combined 4-under-par score.

FGCU finished 12th as a team behind a 901 team total. The Eagles improved each day by shaving six strokes in round two (300) and cutting five strokes in the final round (295). The Green and Blue placed higher than #61 Augusta and in-state foes USF, FAU and Stetson.

"I was proud of how the team fought all week," first-year head coach Shannon Sykora said. "We learned a lot, and it's good experience for our young players."

Tournament host Furman took home the team title with a final team score of 866, 4-under. Christin Eisenbeiss from North Florida won the individual title behind a 8-under showing (208).

Anna Claire Bridge (Collierville, Tenn.) and freshman Grace Rigby-Walden (England) improved each round, while Posie Farrelly (Lutz, Fla.) carded the lowest round among any Eagle on Sunday, an even 72 to tie a career low.

FGCU women's golf will be back in action on October 3-4 at the Jupiter Invitational, hosted by FAU in Jupiter, Florida.
