Trio From Women’s Golf Earn WGCA Scholar-All-America Honors

Anouk Casty, Posie Farrelly, and Haley Yerxa all earn the national distinction.

FORT MYERS, Fla. – A trio of FGCU women's golfers were named 2022 Scholar All-Americans as announced by the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA). Anouk Casty and Posie Farrelly earned the honor for the first time after their freshman campaigns, while Haley Yerxa did so for the second straight year.
 
The award requires a minimum of 3.50 grade-point-average with a total of 1,506 women's collegiate golfers recognized.
 
The honor was the capstone for Yerxa who completed her career in the Green & Blue having been named to the CoSIDA Academic At-Large All-District Team, the first in program history, and the ASUN All-Academic Team during the spring season. She was twice named to the ASUN All-Academic Team during career receiving the accolade along with WGCA Scholar All-America status following the 2021 season as well. Overall, she held a perfect 4.0 GPA as a software engineering major.
 
On the course this past season, she posted a career-best 74.14 scoring average through 29 rounds this season (+2.34 vs. Par). She had 10 rounds at par-or-better which led the team and three rounds in the 60s with 72 birdies on the year. Yerxa won the 44th Annual Pat Bradley Invitational and has four top-10 finishes on the year. She shot a season-low 209 at the Spring Break Shootout highlighted by 68's in the first and third rounds.
 
Casty was a member of the ASUN All-Freshman Team after ranking third on the squad with a 75.96 scoring average. In her lone season with the Eagles, she played 26 rounds with three at par-or-better and had a top finish of sixth at the Spring Break Shootout where she had a 54-hole total of 215. Casty also was a member of the AD Honor Roll, the Dean's List and the President's List during her freshman season where she posted a 3.61 GPA as an entrepreneurship major.
 
Farrelly, a rising sophomore, was fourth on the team last spring with a 77.41 scoring average. She had a top finish of 19th at the First Coast Classic and a season-low 54-hole score of 222 at the FAU Paradise Classic. In the classroom, Farrelly posted a 3.90 GPA as an environmental engineering major. She also earned AD Honor Roll, Dean's List, and President's List honors during her first season as an Eagle.

COACH SYKORA
After a highly successful decade leading Barry University, Shannon Sykora was named the FGCU women's golf head coach on June 16, 2022. During his career with Barry, the Buccaneers won the 2017 NCAA Division II National Title, while finishing runner-up in 2014 and placing third in 2013 and 2022. Sykora led Barry to 28 tournament wins in his decade as head coach including four Division I tournament victories. He has produced five WGCA All-America First Team selections, nine WGCA Scholar All-Americans, one honorable mention All-American, the 2013 NCAA Division II Individual National Champion, and the only D-II player to compete in the inaugural Augusta Women's Amateur.

ABOUT FGCU
FGCU teams have combined to win an incredible 92 conference regular season and tournament titles in just 15 seasons at the Division I level. Additionally, in just 11 seasons of D-I postseason eligibility, the Eagles have had a combined 45 teams or individuals compete in NCAA championships. In 2022, the men's golf team became the first program to earn at at-large berth to the NCAA Tournament. Eight FGCU programs have earned a top-25 national ranking in their respective sport - including women's basketball (No. 20, 2021-22), beach volleyball (No. 20, 2022) and both men's soccer (2018, 2019) and women's soccer (2018) as four of the most recent. In 2016-17, the Green and Blue posted a department-best sixth-place finish in the DI-AAA Learfield Directors' Cup and top-100 showing nationally, ahead of several Power-5 and FBS institutions. In 2018-19, the Eagles had an ASUN and state of Florida best seven teams earn the NCAA's Public Recognition Award for their Academic Progress Rate in their sport. FGCU also collectively earned a record 3.50 GPA in the classroom in the fall 2020 semester and has outperformed the general University undergraduate population for 26 consecutive semesters. The past five semesters (Fall 2019 – Spring 2022) saw another milestone reached as all 15 programs achieved a 3.0-or-higher cumulative team GPA. The Eagles also served an all-time high 7,200 volunteer hours in 2017 - being recognized as one of two runners-up for the inaugural NACDA Community Service Award presented by the Fiesta Bowl.
