Top-Seeded Men's Tennis Set to Begin ASUN Tournament

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU men's tennis team is ready to get going in the ASUN Tournament, Saturday at 5 p.m. for the semifinals at the FGCU Tennis Complex. The Eagles will play the winner of Stetson and North Florida, which will be played Friday evening. The full bracket can be viewed here.

The top-seeded Eagles will be looking for their fourth ASUN Tournament title after having won in 2015, 2017, and 2019. The Green and Blue have already claimed the regular-season title after finishing league play with a 7-1 record. Overall, the Eagles sit with a 14-6 mark.

ASUN Player of the Year Magnus Johnson leads the Eagles with a 16-3 singles record, playing exclusively at the No. 1 position. Just a redshirt-sophomore, Johnson is now a two-time ASUN Player of the Year, joinging Jordi Vives as the only Eagles to accomplish that feat. He also earned a spot on the ASUN All-Academic team after posting a 3.93 GPA while studying Management.

Marcelo Sepulveda and Randy Wilson joined Johnson with All-ASUN honors as they both earned spots on the second team. Sepulveda is 11-8 overall this season with a 6-2 mark in ASUN play while Wilson was the only player in the ASUN to go 8-0 in league play. Overall, Wilson was 14-3 and has won nine of his last 10 matches.

Juan Montes, Guglielmo Stefanacci, and Juan Lopez have also contributed a combined 14 singles wins in ASUN play this season.

In doubles, Johnson and Max Damm lead the team with an 11-7 overall record this spring and a 5-3 ASUN record, playing all their matches on court one.

North Florida enters the tournament as the #4 seed after going 6-2 in the ASUN season, which included knocking off the Eagles for FGCU's lone conference loss. Stetson enters as the #5 seed after going 4-4 in the ASUN. The Eagles took down the Hatters on the road earlier this season with a 4-3 victory.

CJ WEBER
FGCU is led by three-time ASUN Coach of the Year CJ Weber, who has coached 32 ASUN All-Conference selections since joining the Green and Blue in 2011. In his seventh year, Weber has compiled a 116-83 (.583) overall record and a 49-19 (.721) record in ASUN play. In 2014-15, Weber guided the Eagles to their first-ever ASUN Championship and first-ever ASUN Regular Season title after a program-best 17 wins. In his third season, Weber led Jordi Vives to a No. 35 national ranking, a nation-leading 14-match unbeaten streak and the round of 32 in the 2014 NCAA Tournament - the program's first appearance. The Eagles completed a perfect ASUN regular season in both 2015 and 2016, finishing with conference titles as well as a Coach of the Year honor for Weber. FGCU again won the 2017 ASUN Championship and made its second NCAA appearance. The Eagles returned to the mountaintop by claiming the 2019 regular season and tournament championships. Weber earned his third ASUN Coach of the Year honor and led the Green and Blue to their third trip to the NCAA Tournament.
