Tavian Dunn-Martin Named ASUN Player of the Week After Record-Breaking Performance

Dunn-Martin earns fifth weekly honor after setting new FGCU single-game scoring record.

FORT MYERS, Fla. – After leading the FGCU men's basketball team to a pair of league wins and extending its unbeaten streak to four games, Tavian Dunn-Martin was named the ASUN Player of the Week to earn his fifth weekly accolade of the season.

The graduate guard averaged 28.0 points, 5.5 assists, and 5.5 rebounds, while shooting .529 from the floor, .500 from deep, and going 11-of-13 from the free throw line in wins over North Alabama and Stetson in overtime.

"Tavian continues to show why he is one of the top players in the league as well as one of the most dynamic guards in the country," said head coach Michael Fly. "Aside from his scoring ability, he is able to impact the game in other ways which put his teammates in position to be successful as well."

The Huntington, West Virginia, native set a new FGCU single-game scoring record in the win over Stetson with 38 points and became the first ASUN player in a decade to have six 30-point games in a season. He scored 20 of his 38 points in the final 7:33 of play including 11 in the last 2:33 of regulation including the game-tying bucket to force overtime. He also added seven assists and six rebounds in the win.

Against North Alabama, he had 18 points, four assists, and five rebounds while going 4-of-5 from beyond the arc.

For Dunn-Martin, this was the second consecutive week he has been named the ASUN Player of the Week and his fifth overall honor including Player of the Week on Nov. 29 and Dec. 13 and the Newcomer of the Week on Jan. 24. He was named to the Lou Henson Mid-Major Player of the Year Award Midseason Watch List earlier this month.

Cyrus Largie was also named the league's Player of the Week on Dec. 6, while Kevin Samuel was named the Newcomer of the Week on Dec. 6 and on Feb. 7 as well.

On the season, Dunn-Martin continues to lead the Eagles with 20.5 points and 5.9 assists per game – he ranks second in the ASUN in scoring and is the league leader in assists. He is on pace to set the FGCU single-season scoring record which is currently held by Leighton Bowie (19.5 ppg, 2003-04). His 81 made three pointers currently ranks fourth-best for a single-season as well.
