Toledo is coming off back-to-back Mid-American Conference regular-season titles and finished the 2021-22 campaign with a 26-8 overall record and NIT appearance. ECU was 15-15 last season in a highly competitive AAC – it was the Pirates' most wins in a season since 2016-17 and their first .500 season since 2013-14. Indiana State was 11-20 last year in the traditionally strong Valley Conference, while UT Arlington, out of the WAC, was 11-18 overall. Drexel enters the year on the heels of back-to-back winning campaigns as members of the CAA, while Kansas City posted 19 wins last year for its best season since 1991-92 when the Roos had 21 victories. FGCU's opening foe, Northern Kentucky, reached the Horizon League Conference Championship as part of a 20-12 overall record and a 14-6 record in league play.

This will mark the third time FGCU has taken part in the tournament, presented specifically for mid-major programs by bd Global, and the first since 2018. The Eagles first played in the tournament in 2014 where they defeated Marist and San Francisco before falling to Green Bay in the championship game. Brett Comer and Bernard Thompson named to the all-tournament team.

Since being announced as FGCU's new head coach, Chambers has brought in the Eagles' best incoming class in program history led by four high-level transfers: Dahmir Bishop (Saint Joseph's), Chase Johnston (Stetson), Sam Onu (Memphis), and Isaiah Thompson (Purdue). The Green & Blue also return fifth-year senior Caleb Catto and Cyrus Largie who have each been two of the program's top scorers over the last three years.

The 2022-23 season will officially begin on the road as FGCU heads west to take on USC on Nov. 7 and San Diego on Nov. 9. The game against the Trojans will again have the Eagles facing former head coach Andy Enfield who led the Green & Blue to its historical NCAA Tournament run to the Sweet 16.

FGCU is coming off a 22-12 record during the 2021-22 campaign which included a 10-6 mark in ASUN play. The Eagles played in The Basketball Classic during the postseason picking up a win over Detroit Mercy before falling at Coastal Carolina.
