FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU men's tennis team (4-4, 3-0 ASUN) will continue its ASUN slate on the road this weekend with matches against Kennesaw State (4-10, 0-2 ASUN) and Stetson (2-5, 0-1 ASUN). The Eagles will first take on the Owls in a neutral site match at the UNF Tennis Complex on Friday, April 2 (2 p.m.) before making the trip to DeLand the following day to face off against Stetson (3 p.m.). The competition at the Mandy Stoll Center will have live stats available.

The Eagles, who were picked to repeat as league champions in the 2021 ASUN Preseason Coaches' Poll, have had strong outings in the first half of their conference schedule. FGCU has already defeated UNF (5-2), Kennesaw State (6-1) and Stetson (4-3) and will now play all three teams once again.

The Green & Blue
Redshirt-freshman Randy Wilson (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/Miami Palmetto/Louisville) starred during the team's most recent outing, as he clinched FGCU's victory over Stetson with a third set, tiebreaker win on court three. Wilson bounced back after a slow second set and defeated Clement Hamil to preserve the Eagles' four-match winning streak.

He and redshirt-sophomore Pedro Maciel (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Goliath Academy) have been steadily climbing the ITA Doubles Rankings, checking in at 44th this week. The duo is 1-0 on the year, having taken down the No. 21 USF pair earlier in the season. Maciel and Wilson are joined in the rankings by redshirt-freshman Magnus Johnson (Naples, Fla./Homeschool/UCF), who is slotted 65th in singles.

The Naples native has a winning, 5-3 mark at the top singles spot, which includes a 1-1 mark against ranked opponents. During the team's historic, 4-3 victory over Miami, Johnson joined freshman Alessandro Conca (Milan, Italy/ISMC Milano) in picking up singles triumphs over ranked Hurricanes.

In addition to the ranked members of the team, redshirt-freshman Guglielmo Stefanacci (Prato, Italy/International School of Florence) has been heating up for the Eagles. He is on a four-match winning streak in singles play, with three of the results being earned against ASUN opponents.

The Owls
Kennesaw State will enter the weekend looking to snap its two-match losing streak, having dropped results to FGCU (1-6) and UNF (3-4). Overall, the Owls have won three of their last 10 matches.

Freshman Raul Garcia and senior Sergio Ingles are tied for the team lead in singles play with five wins apiece. Ingles' record is highlighted by his 5-4 advantage at the second singles court spot. After a slow start to the season, sophomore Harvey Conway has won three of his last singles matches. His streak is matched by classmate Seru Tezuka, who had picked up three-straight victories at the fifth spot.

FGCU is 9-4 all-time against Kennesaw State and has won three of the last five regular-season meetings between the two teams.

The Hatters
Stetson will also enter this weekend's action looking to snap its losing streak after dropping back-to-back outings against Georgia State and FGCU. The team's two victories this year were earned in a decisive fashion, as the Hatters picked up a 6-1 result against Mercer and a 5-2 win over Furman.

The Hatter duo of senior Linus Bergevi and sophomore Sven Theigard has won each of its last two matches, which includes a 6-3 triumph during the clash with FGCU. They are tied with sophomore Alexandre Hillhouse and senior Antoine Sanchez for the team lead with a pair of doubles wins.

Despite Stetson owning a 10-7 all-time advantage against FGCU, the Eagles have won four of the last five regular-season matches between the sides. A Green & Blue win this weekend would tie the teams' shared regular season record up at 7-7.

CJ WEBER
FGCU is led by three-time ASUN Coach of the Year CJ Weber, who has coached 32 ASUN All-Conference selections since joining the Green and Blue in 2011. In his seventh year, Weber has compiled a 101-85 (.541) overall record and a 41-18 (.672) record in ASUN play. In 2014-15, Weber guided the Eagles to their first-ever ASUN Championship and first-ever ASUN Regular Season title after a program-best 17 wins. In his third season, Weber led Jordi Vives to a No. 35 national ranking, a nation-leading 14-match unbeaten streak and the round of 32 in the 2014 NCAA Tournament - the program's first appearance. The Eagles completed a perfect ASUN regular season in both 2015 and 2016, finishing with conference titles as well as a Coach of the Year honor for Weber. FGCU again won the 2017 ASUN Championship and made its second NCAA appearance. The Eagles returned to the mountaintop by claiming the 2019 regular season and tournament championships. Weber earned his third ASUN Coach of the Year honor and led the Green and Blue to their third trip to the NCAA Tournament.
