FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU men's tennis team (5-8, 1-0 ASUN) will take on ASUN Conference foe NJIT at 5 p.m. March 23 at the FGCU Tennis Complex. Saturday's matchup will be the Eagles' second against a conference opponent. The Green and Blue downed UNF 5-2 at home earlier this season.
"We are looking forward to our match against NJIT and getting our conference schedule really going," head coach
CJ Weber said. "The guys are getting stronger throughout the season and I'm really anticipating how well we can put everything together with this part of our schedule."
Last Time Out
•    The Eagles dropped a 4-1 decision to Georgia State (8-8, 0-0 Sun Belt) while battling the weather at the FGCU Tennis Complex last Wednesday and Thursday.
•    The teams were only able to fit in doubles play on the scheduled match day before the rest of the event was suspended due to rain. The match resumed with singles play early Thursday morning.
•    Georgia State got off to a solid start and never conceded its lead. After claiming the doubles point, the Panthers claimed three of the singles matches en route to their victory.
•   Â
Javier Fernandez (Ibiza, Spain/IES CTEIB) earned the only win of the day for the Green and Blue with a straight-set victory on court No. 6.
•    Both teams agreed ahead of time to end the match whenever a team reached four points.
Juan Montes (Pereira, Colombia) was leading his competitor when the match was called and
Marcelo Tebet (Londrina, Brazil/Colégio Anglo Americano) was making a comeback after dropping the first set.
Scouting the Highlanders
•    NJIT is currently 4-9 with a 0-1 mark in conference play.
•    Last weekend, the Highlanders dropped a close 4-3 battle against ASUN opponent Stetson. After missing the doubles point, NJIT battled back in singles play but was unable to overtake the Hatters.
•    Both Zac Castanga and Abdullah Fouad are on three-match winning streaks at courts four and three, respectively.
•    The Highlanders have yet to earn a road win and are currently 0-5 outside of their home courts.
•    Like FGCU, NJIT has not been able to shut out an opponent this season. Their largest margin of victory was a 6-1 win over Sacred Heart in February.
•    This will be the seventh meeting between the two teams. The Eagles currently hold a 4-2 advantage and have not lost since a 4-3 victory for the Highlanders at home during the 2017 season.
•    The Green and Blue have not dropped a home match to NJIT since a 4-3 loss in 2010.
Up Next
The Eagles will continue their long home swing with a match against the Brown Bears next Thursday, March 28. Doubles play will begin at 5 p.m. at the FGCU Tennis Complex. This will be the second-ever meeting between the Green and Blue and the Bears. The last time the teams met was a 6-1 victory for Brown at the FGCU Tennis Complex in 2011.

who has coached 29 ASUN All-Conference selections since joining the Green and Blue in 2011. In his seventh year, Weber has compiled an 87-76 (.533) overall record and a 32-18 (.640) record in ASUN play. In 2014-15, Weber guided the Eagles to their first-ever ASUN Championship and first-ever ASUN Regular Season title after a program-best 17 wins. In his third season, Weber led Jordi Vives to a No. 35 national ranking, a nation-leading 14-match unbeaten streak and the round of 32 in the 2014 NCAA Tournament - the program's first appearance. The Eagles completed consecutive perfect ASUN seasons in 2016 and back-to-back conference titles as well as a second-straight Coach of the Year honor for Weber. FGCU again won the ASUN Championship in 2017, advancing to its second NCAA appearance in program history.
