Wakefield Wraps Up Action at NCAA Zone Diving Championships

AUBURN, AL – Sophomore diver Megan Wakefield completed her three-day performance Wednesday afternoon at the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships at the James E. Aquatic Center on the campus of Auburn University.

"Megan came back this year and performed well under pressure against some of the best athletes in the world," diving coach David Boyko said. "It was arguably one of the most competitive Zone Championships in the country."

Beginning with the prelims Monday afternoon, Wakefield (Guelph, Ontario, Canada/Centennial CVI) placed 37th in the 3-meter dive with a score of 201. 45, improving her score by more than 20 points from last season's event. She finished ahead of divers from Georgia Tech, East Carolina and Alabama.

Day two of the competition on Tuesday saw the Ontario native produce a score of 221. 95 on the 1-meter spring as she placed 28th in the prelims. In addition, Wakefield out-placed divers from Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and Duke.

Earlier this afternoon, the sophomore wrapped her three-day outing with a 20th place showing on the platform dive with a score of 207.25. The mark was just two points shy of making the finals. In the process, she became the highest-placing diver at any NCAA Zones Championships for the Green and Blue.
