MIAMI – The FGCU swimming and diving team (6-7, 2-1 CCSA) will hit the road for its final dual meet of the season as the Eagles travel to FIU Saturday morning. The meet is slated for an 11 am start.
"We've developed quite a fun rivalry with FIU over the years," said head coach
Dave Rollins. "Their program is much like ours and they are very well coached. We also stack up very well against each other and it should be an exciting meet."
LAST TIME OUT
The Eagles suffered a 10-point loss (126-116) to Miami last Saturday night at home. FGCU captured wins in both the 200-yard medley relay (1:43.68) and the 200-yard free relay (1:34.81). FGCU produced four first-place individual finishes including
Gracie Redding (Orlando, Fla./The First Academy/FSU) (50-yard free, 23.42),
Cassidy Fry (Oakwood, Ohio/Oakwood HS) (100-yard fly, 56.01),
Rebecca Moynihan (Palmerston North, New Zealand/Waiopehu College) (100-yard free, 51.21), and
Linda Shaw (Leeds, United Kingdom/Roundhay HS) (500 free, 5:05.69).
On the boards,
Megan Wakefield (Guelph, Ontario, Canada/Centennial CVI) placed second on the 3-meter (278.02) and fourth on the 1-meter (276.37), a season-best score. Competing in a loaded field that included a two-time Olympian, a British National silver medalist, and a USA Olympic trials qualifier, Wakefield was named the CCSA's Diver of the Week Tuesday afternoon.
SCOUTING THE PANTHERS
FIU boasts an overall 1-1 record and is coming off a 127.5-67.5 win over Central Connecticut. In that meet, FIU captured 10 of 11 events, only squandering the 500 free.
FGCU and FIU both met back in early October, which saw the Eagles come away with the TYR Classic title. Over the span of two days, the Green and Blue scored 478.5 points to finish over the Panthers, who registered 454.5 points.
